Ceasefire On The Brink: Iran Shuts Down Strait Of Hormuz Hours After Reopening It
According to CNBC, the Strait of Hormuz has been closed once again, citing repeated U.S. “breaches of trust,” just hours after briefly reopening the critical waterway. The IRGC warned that no vessel should move from anchorage, and any ship approaching the strait would be considered cooperation with the enemy.
Furthermore, The Times of Israel adds that Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf acknowledged “progress” in U.S.-Iran negotiations but cautioned that a “big distance” still separates both sides, particularly over nuclear ambitions and Strait control.
Meanwhile NPR reports that Vice President JD Vance, envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner are heading to Islamabad for another round of talks, as the ceasefire inches toward its Wednesday expiry.
Trump warned he may not extend the ceasefire, threatening to resume airstrikes if no long-term deal is reached. The U.S. military reported forcing 23 ships to turn around as part of its blockade of Iranian ports.
In the latest escalation post closure of the Strait of Hormuz yet again, India summoned Iran’s ambassador after two Indian-flagged ships came under fire in the strait, adding further international pressure to an already explosive situation, The Kathmandu Post reports.
