OpenAI Makes Decision To Kill Sora – Video Generating AI Model: The Stated Reasons May Not Paint The Full Picture!
According to AOL, OpenAI made its decision to kill Sora yesterday on Wednesday. Last year on September, the company launched Sora 2 and made headlines with its ambitious move towards next generation AI video model. So, what changed?
The company stated that in addition to this, it is ending the $1 billion partnership with Walt Disney. The company aims to redirect its focus in other areas, particularly in robotics aimed at solving real-world physical tasks.
While these are officially stated intentions, some speculate that OpenAI plans to turn the company into a potential IPO. Furthermore, CEO of OpenAI Sam Altman stated himself that ChatGPT is suffering through significant financial losses. In addition to this, ChatGPT is yet to become profitable despite its worldwide use.
This along with the shutting down of Sora indicates that while Sam Altman may have his eyes set on robotics, it is undeniable that his company requires a major form of re-structuring to curb the billions of dollars of losses and set his company on track to profitability and success.
