BMW Turns An April Fool’s Joke Into A Fully Functioning Racing Machine With The ‘M3 Touring 24H’

BMW’s Station Wagon M3 Touring 24H Was Last Year’s April Fools Joke: A Software Render of Race Car Version Now Turns Out To Be Real

According to Car And Driver, the BMW M3 Touring which is BMW’s prestigious modern day station wagon was used as a prop for an April Fool’s joke. Last year, BMW worked with software engineers to model a 3D render of a race car version of the same car in order to make it look as if it’s real when it was just a 3D render. Now the joke has become a reality.

The recent likes and hype surrounding the joke got to BMW and they decided to bring that joke into reality. For context, station wagons are designed as a comfier, family oriented version of sedans with extended roofline, a rear liftgate or tailgate and extended cargo space. They are marketed as ‘cars for the longer trips’ and are meant for families.

However, this family car turned into a beast of a machine for the 24H endurance races. BMW’s newly M3 Touring 24H is set to race in the Nürburgring endurance race this year – a track incredibly dangerous and competitive that tests the full limits of any car driven for at least a single complete lap.

According to BMW’s website, the specs are as follows: The car features power output of up to 590 horsepower. The P58 3.0-liter in-line six-cylinder engine is stripped straight from the BMW M4 GT3 as it produces up to 700Nm of torque.

The vehicle itself is incredibly aerodynamic, though the car was built in 8 months which means it took a lot of time and headache for engineers to make this car aerodynamically competitive in the endurance races. As a result, this race car version features a very aggressive wing

The chassis has also taken massive support and inspiration from the previous M4 GT3 EVO which ultimately became a stepping stone for this monstrosity of a station wagon.
