Three Categories, Three Deadlines And A Festival Running November 19 To 27: The Doha Film Festival Just Opened The Door To The Next Generation Of Arab And International Cinema

According To The Peninsula Qatar, Doha Film Institute officially opened submissions for the 2026 edition of the Doha Film Festival on May 10, inviting filmmakers from Qatar, the Arab world and across the globe to submit their work for one of the region’s most celebrated cinematic platforms.
Submissions are currently open for short films only, across three distinct categories. The International Short Film Competition welcomes entries from filmmakers anywhere in the world. The Ajyal Film Competition, DFI’s flagship youth-focused initiative, accepts short films aimed at young audiences and youth-driven storytelling. The Made in Qatar category provides a dedicated platform for local Qatari productions, putting homegrown voices on a global stage.
Deadlines are clearly structured. The International Short Film Competition and Ajyal Short Film Competition both close on August 1, 2026. The Made in Qatar category accepts entries until September 1, 2026. Filmmakers can submit through the official DFI platform at www.dohafilm.com.
The festival itself runs from November 19 to 27, 2026, bringing together filmmakers, audiences and industry professionals under the theme of fostering dialogue, reflection and connection through cinema.
Established in 2010, the Doha Film Institute has developed a reputation well beyond the Gulf, supporting productions that have gone on to premiere at Cannes and other major international festivals.
