Tesla Autopilot Crash: Driver Failed To Turn Before Vehicle Struck Front Room At High Speed
According to Electrek, a Tesla driver told Harris County investigators his car was on Autopilot when it failed to make a right turn, crashed through a brick wall, and struck a 76-year-old woman inside her home in Katy, Texas.
The crash happened around 8 p.m. Friday on Rose Hollow Lane. The vehicle continued forward at high speed instead of turning, plowing directly into the home’s front room where the woman was standing. She was flown to Memorial Hermann hospital by Life Flight and later pronounced dead. The 44-year-old driver showed no signs of intoxication and is cooperating with investigators. No charges have been filed.
Sergeant Alex Turman confirmed investigators are examining whether Autopilot was active, though officials have not specified if the driver meant standard Autopilot or Full Self-Driving. Both still legally require an attentive driver ready to take over at all times.
This matters because the crash adds to mounting federal scrutiny of Tesla’s driver-assistance systems, which have faced repeated investigations since late 2025.
A car left the road and ended a woman’s life in her own living room. The investigation into why is only beginning.
