Pizza Hut Sold For $2.7 Billion: LongRange Capital And Yum China Split Ownership As Domino’s Pulls Ahead
According to multiple reports including CBS News, Yum! Brands announced June 16 it is selling Pizza Hut in a split $2.7 billion deal, ending nearly three decades inside its portfolio alongside KFC and Taco Bell.
LongRange Capital, a private equity firm founded by former Arby’s turnaround leader Bob Berlin, is acquiring operations outside mainland China for $1.5 billion, while Yum China Holdings buys the China business for $1.2 billion.
The deal follows a strategic review launched in November 2025 after Pizza Hut’s US sales fell 8.2% last year, losing ground to Domino’s in ordering, delivery and menu innovation. Yum! Brands also announced a $4 billion stock buyback alongside the sale.
This matters because Pizza Hut, once the world’s largest pizza chain with nearly 20,000 locations, became Yum’s smallest and weakest brand, with sales down 1% in 2025 and 4% in 2024, while KFC and Taco Bell kept growing.
“Despite efforts to revitalize the brand, pushing the division back into growth would require a level of investment Yum is not prepared to commit to,” analyst Neil Saunders noted.
