Qatar And EU Hold Food Trade Dialogue: Qatar Chamber Says Qatar Has Become A Global Frontrunner In Practical Food Security Expertise
According to The Peninsula Qatar, Qatar Chamber participated in the EU-Qatar Dialogue on Safe and Resilient Food Trade, held at W Doha Hotel in person and via videoconference, bringing together policymakers, regulators, industry figures, and specialists from both the European Union and Qatar.
The session centered on ensuring steady market access for European agricultural and food exports, adhering to international sanitary and phytosanitary norms, and enhancing clarity in import regulations.
Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Obaidly, Board Member and Chairman of the Food Security and Environment Committee at Qatar Chamber, said Qatar’s approach to food security has evolved beyond theory into a hands-on reality shaped by responses to multiple emergencies, adding that Qatar has expanded its strategic stockpiles and trialed supply channels via land, sea, and air.
Al Obaidly also stressed that genuine Qatar-EU ties should be built on mutual gain, noting that Europe needs energy while Qatar needs technology, research, and advanced skills in farming, supply chains, food safety, and cutting-edge technologies. He cited the Netherlands’ agribusiness model as a benchmark worth studying.
Qatar now has a surplus in certain products relative to its demand, prompting consideration of exports rather than solely imports.
