Iran’s Araghchi Travels To Kyrgyzstan For SCO Foreign Ministers Meeting Marking The Bloc’s 25th Anniversary

Abbas Araghchi Arrives In Bishkek Ahead Of SCO Council Of Foreign Ministers Session In Cholpon-Ata To Present Iran’s Positions On Regional And International Issues

According to Tasnim News Agency, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan on Tuesday evening to attend the Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, held in the resort city of Cholpon-Ata under Kyrgyzstan’s SCO chairmanship.

The meeting coincides with the 25th anniversary of the SCO and is being held under the theme “25 Years of the SCO: Together Towards Sustainable Peace, Development and Prosperity.” Cholpon-Ata serves as the SCO’s Tourism and Cultural Capital for 2025-2026.

Beyond the plenary session, Araqchi is expected to hold bilateral meetings with counterparts from multiple member states. Ministers will coordinate draft documents for the upcoming Bishkek SCO Summit and exchange positions on regional security, trade, cultural cooperation, and the organisation’s long-term direction.

The timing is significant. Iran is at the centre of a live conflict with the United States, and the SCO which includes Russia, China, and Pakistan, represents the bloc most likely to shape whatever diplomatic offramp eventually emerges.

Every bilateral Araghchi conducts in Cholpon-Ata carries extra weight this week. Check out our previous coverage of the US-Iran war on The Trusted Times.
