Pakistan Raises Petrol To Rs333.01 And Cuts HSD To Rs383.86 From August 6 Under New Daily OGRA Pricing Mechanism

Daily Revision Delivers Split Decision. Petrol Up Rs4.45 While HSD Falls Rs2 As International Prices Move In Opposite Directions One Day After Daily Pricing System Replaces Weekly Revisions

According to Dawn, the government raised petrol prices by Rs4.45 per litre to Rs333.01 and reduced high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs2 per litre to Rs383.86, effective August 6, 2026; the first revision under the new daily OGRA pricing mechanism announced by Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik just the day before. Taxes remain unchanged at Rs110 per litre on petrol and Rs96 per litre on HSD.

The split revision illustrates precisely why daily pricing was introduced: petrol and HSD track different global benchmarks and futures curves, and on some days they move in opposite directions. Under the previous weekly system, both prices were revised simultaneously regardless of intraday or daily divergences; a blunt instrument during periods of high volatility in the US-Iran war era.

Petrol peaked at Rs458.41 on April 3 before declining; today’s Rs333.01 remains Rs67 above its pre-war level of Rs266. HSD peaked at Rs520.35 on the same date and has now fallen Rs136.49 from that high, though it remains Rs102.86 above its pre-war level of Rs281.

Two fuels. Two directions. One daily pricing system trying to keep up with a global oil market still shaped by the Iran war.
