CM Maryam Nawaz Says Punjab Development Program Brings Balanced Development. South Punjab Getting Kisan Cards, Laptops And Scholarships

Punjab Assembly Members From Vehari Thank CM For Dual Carriageway On Vehari-Multan Road And Electro Bus Service. New Drainage Schemes Easing Monsoon Pressure Across Province

According to Radio Pakistan, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said on August 9, 2026 that the Punjab Development Program has introduced a culture of balanced development across the province, addressing longstanding gaps between central and southern Punjab.

Speaking to a delegation of Punjab Assembly members from Vehari who called on her in Lahore, Maryam Nawaz said farmers in South Punjab were benefiting from multiple government initiatives including the Kisan Card, laptop distribution and merit-based scholarships; three of the programme’s flagship interventions targeting the historically underserved south.

The Chief Minister also highlighted improvements in provincial drainage infrastructure, stating that new drainage schemes have significantly improved the flood-management situation during the current monsoon season.

The visiting delegation thanked the Chief Minister for converting the long-neglected Vehari-Multan Road into a dual carriageway; a project that reduces commute times and transport costs for one of Punjab’s most agriculturally productive districts and for launching an electro bus service in the Vehari area, extending Punjab’s growing electric public transport network beyond major cities for the first time.

South Punjab has waited generations for balanced development. Whether Kisan Cards and electro buses are the beginning of that shift or another campaign season’s promises, will be measured in the years ahead.
