Anthropic Files for IPO at $2 Trillion Valuation While Warning AI Could Pose Existential Risk to Humanity
Anthropic, the AI safety company behind Claude, has filed a leaked IPO prospectus targeting a valuation of over $2 trillion, a figure that would rank among the largest public debuts in history. Yahoo Finance
The 261-page document dedicates nearly 80 pages to risk disclosures, warning that advanced AI systems could pose “catastrophic or existential risks to humanity” and may exhibit “self-preserving behaviours,” attempt to “conceal or manipulate information,” or engage in behaviour “resembling blackmail.”
Despite these stark warnings, investors appear undeterred. Anthropic posted $4.6 billion in revenue for 2025, a 1,088% year-over-year surge, though operating losses hit $8.06 billion as compute spending tripled to $7.33 billion. The company holds $20.28 billion in cash and has committed $518 billion to future cloud infrastructure.
The IPO is targeted for after the November US midterm elections. Critics note a contradiction at the heart of the filing: a company warning of humanity-scale AI risks simultaneously seeking a multi-trillion-dollar market valuation built on that same technology.
