17,000 Boeing Engineers and Tech Workers Vote Yes on SPEEA Contract: 34% Pay Increase, Enhanced Benefits, and a Strike Narrowly Avoided
More than 17,000 Boeing engineers and technical workers have approved a new four-year contract, averting a strike that could have severely disrupted the aerospace giant’s aircraft certification programmes. KOMO NEWS
The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA) concluded electronic voting on October 1, 2026, with members backing the deal.
The contract delivers a 34% total pay increase over four years, including an immediate 10% raise in October. Professional employees secured an additional $11,000 in compensation above Boeing’s initial offer, while technical workers gained an extra $8,000.
The agreement also includes enhanced healthcare and retirement benefits, two additional vacation days, one floating holiday, and three bereavement days.
The stakes were high. A strike would have threatened certifications for the Boeing 777 and 737 MAX 10, halting engineering development and regulatory compliance work. The outcome follows Boeing’s bruising 2024 machinists strike, which lasted nearly two months.
Workers expressed cautious optimism, with software security engineer Alex Phillips noting the contract contains “stepping stones for making improvements,” while cutting tool designer Kevin Boyd called it “a foundation we can continue to build.”
