The delegation, which includes ministers Sharjeel Inam Memon, Jam Khan Shoro, and Agriculture Minister Muhammad Bux Mahar, is scheduled to attend an investment conference in Shanghai targeting leading Chinese state-owned companies.

Speaking before departure, CM Murad Ali Shah stressed that investment was “essential for the prosperity of Sindh,” identifying agriculture modernization, pharmaceutical production, and manufacturing as the province’s priority sectors for Chinese cooperation.

The visit also carries significance for the long-delayed Karachi Circular Railway (KCR). Sindh first requested the KCR’s inclusion in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor in December 2016. The CM reiterated that the project “should have become operational a long time ago,” and the provincial government has approached the Asian Development Bank for $21 billion towards its revival.

The Acting Chinese Consul General in Karachi personally saw off the delegation, signalling diplomatic weight behind the visit. Billboards promoting the Shanghai conference have already been displayed across Karachi ahead of the trip.
