Omani FM Albusaidi Meets PM Shehbaz, Backs Pakistan’s Regional De-escalation Efforts

The visit included the 8th session of the Pakistan-Oman Joint Ministerial Commission, co-chaired by Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. Both sides signed MoUs covering media, news exchange, IT, archives, and diplomatic passport exchanges, and agreed to establish a Pakistan-Oman business investment forum. A visa exemption for diplomatic and official passport holders was also announced.
Dar described Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia as “totally unacceptable,” reaffirming Pakistan’s solidarity under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement; a position Albusaidi endorsed. He also condemned India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty as a material breach of international law and flagged a potential Pakistan-GCC free trade agreement as a pathway to expanded economic ties.
Albusaidi reaffirmed Oman’s commitment to freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. PM Shehbaz described Oman as a “brotherly country and valuable maritime partner,” with the ninth Joint Ministerial Commission session set for 2027.
