Blizzard Warning and Heavy Snow Force Emergency Declarations Across Multiple Northeastern States in the U.S.
According to Reuters, several northeastern states have declared a winter storm emergency as heavy snow and blizzard warnings sweep across the region. Governors warned residents of snowfall totals reaching up to 24 inches and urged the public to avoid all non-essential travel as conditions continue to worsen.
The powerful winter storm has already caused widespread disruption. More than 15,000 flights have been delayed, while over 3,500 flights were cancelled, creating significant travel chaos across major airports in the northeastern United States.
Meanwhile, emergency response efforts have intensified. Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey activated up to 200 National Guard members, while New York Governor Kathy Hochul deployed 100 National Guard personnel across Long Island, New York City and the Lower Hudson Valley.
Road transportation has also been impacted. Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont announced a ban on commercial vehicles along state highways beginning Sunday evening in an effort to reduce accidents and congestion during the storm.
