Nvidia In Talks To Invest $3 Billion In SB Energy As Part Of $100 Billion Ohio OpenAI Data Center Deal

The Information Reports Investment Split. Half At Deal Signing Half At IPO. SB Energy Targeting $5 Billion IPO As Soon As September. Nvidia Also Providing $100 Billion Credit Support For Campus. WSJ Reports Ohio Guarantee Scaled Back To Under $120 Billion

According to Reuters and The Information, Nvidia is in talks to invest as much as $3 billion in SB Energy; a subsidiary of SoftBank Group and developer of a massive planned Ohio data center project for OpenAI, as part of broader financing discussions involving approximately $100 billion in credit support from Nvidia for the Ohio campus.

The $3 billion investment is structured in two tranches: half to be committed when the Ohio project deal is signed, and the other half as part of SB Energy’s planned initial public offering, which the company is aiming to complete as soon as next month with a target raise of at least $5 billion. Reuters could not immediately verify the report. Nvidia and SB Energy did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

SB Energy, also backed directly by OpenAI, develops large-scale power and data center infrastructure. Founded in 2019, it is building several data center campuses to support rising AI workload demand. The Ohio project represents one of the most ambitious AI infrastructure investments ever proposed.

Separately, The Wall Street Journal reported that Nvidia had scaled back its Ohio guarantee to under $120 billion, down from earlier reported figures, as negotiations continue.

Nvidia is not just supplying the chips for the AI economy. It is now financing and investing in the infrastructure the chips will run on.
