Intel Confirms LGA 1700 And Raptor Lake Will Stay “For Years To Come”. VP Robert Hallock Tells Tom’s Hardware Raptor Lake Is A “Core Part Of The Portfolio”. Unanticipated Inrush Of Demand As Buyers Flee DDR5 Costs. Core 200 Raptor Lake Next Planned For LGA 1700 In Early 2027
According to Videocardz and Tom’s Hardware, Intel Vice President and General Manager of Enthusiast Channel Business Robert Hallock has confirmed that Raptor Lake processors will remain a core part of Intel’s portfolio for years, with the company continuing to offer LGA 1700 platform products alongside its newer generations.
Hallock told Tom’s Hardware: “Going forward, 10nm products like Raptor Lake that is a core part of the portfolio that I want to offer to people for years to come. LGA 1700 is still a good socket. Lots of people are still interested in DDR4, so we’ll keep offering, and you’ll see pricing smooth out over time. It’ll come back to normal.”
Intel did not anticipate the surge. Hallock explained that rising DDR5 memory prices pushed budget-conscious builders back toward DDR4 systems, creating a sudden inrush of demand for Alder Lake and Raptor Lake platforms; neither of which was planned for when wafers and build schedules were set months earlier. “If people are going to go to more affordable hardware, they still want the fastest available for their money, and that happened to be Alder Lake and Raptor Lake,” he said.
Separately, Videocardz confirmed that Intel is planning Core 200 “Raptor Lake Next”; a third Raptor Lake refresh targeting LGA 1700 with production planned for early 2027. The series will retain compatibility with both DDR4 and DDR5 platforms.
LGA 1700 launched in 2021. Intel just confirmed it will still be relevant in 2027. That is an extraordinary lifespan for any socket.
