US-Iran Peace Talks Fail As Both Sides Blame The Other For Failing To Reach A Deal Amid The 21-Hour Ceasefire Negotiations In Islamabad
According to Reuters, the US-Iran peace talks have failed to reach a conclusive result regarding ceasefire negotiations which has put the 2-week ceasefire in jeopardy as the talks to end the war failed. Vice President JD Vance told Reuters that “the bad news is that we have not reached an agreement, and I think that’s bad news for Iran much more than it’s bad news for the United States of America,”.
According to a statement issued by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, the US-Iran peace talks have resulted in agreements on a number of talking points which suggests that despite the initial setback, there are chances that both sides can re-evaluate and resume talks in the future for lasting peace. In addition to this, he also mentioned that Pakistan will continue to play the mediating role in facilitating positive relations and bringing lasting peace and harmony between the two nations.
The main reason for the failure is due to disagreements over the Strait of Hormuz as well as Nuclear Disarmament which has made the peace talks null and void.
Furthermore, Reuters stated: “Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said it was “imperative” to maintain the two-week ceasefire that was agreed on Tuesday as the two sides attempted to wind down a war that began on February 28 with air strikes by the U.S. and Israel on Iran.”
