Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production (STEP) Is UK’s Latest Program To Seek Cleaner Source Of Nuclear Limitless Energy Through Advancement In Magnetism
According to Yahoo News, UK is set to complete its prototype nuclear fusion power plant construction by 2040. At the same time, it is already trying to figure out how to lower maintenance costs and shorten shutdown times.
Thus, the idea of using magnetism as a source for limitless energy is born. Implemented by UK Industrial Fusion Solutions, the goal is to unlock nearly limitless energy without harmful air pollution, long-lasting nuclear waste, or serious accident risks.
However, scientists have had to face obstacles. Sustaining reactions inside the complex while using less energy than it takes to operate has been a challenge for fusion scientists around the world. The solution is therefore re-mountable magnets with “plug-and-socket” connectors that make them easier to remove for upkeep.
Countering permanently installed components in typical nuclear reactors results in faster maintenance and lower costs, thus making nuclear fusion an even cleaner source of energy.
