Apple AirPods 2027: Rather Than Capturing Photos Or Video, The Computer-Vision Sensors Embedded In The Stems Will Feed Visual Information Directly To Siri, Letting Users Ask Questions About Objects And Their Surroundings, Such As Glancing At A Fridge Full Of Ingredients And Asking What To Cook As Part Of A Broader 2027 Apple Hardware Wave That Also Includes AI Smart Glasses And A Foldable iPhone Successor
According to Digital Trends and Cult of Mac, Apple is now targeting late 2027 for the release of its first camera-equipped AirPods, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, positioning them as one of the company’s first dedicated AI wearables.
The earbuds, internally codenamed B798, were originally slated for a 2026 launch before slipping due to Apple’s prolonged struggles developing Siri and the visual AI models required to identify objects in a user’s surroundings.
The cameras won’t function like traditional smartphone cameras. Instead, they’ll serve as computer-vision sensors embedded in the stems, feeding visual information to Siri so users can ask questions about what they’re looking at, such as identifying ingredients on a kitchen counter to get a meal suggestion.
Small indicator lights will alert nearby people whenever the earbuds send data to the cloud for processing. Visually, the design will closely resemble existing AirPods Pro models.
The AirPods sit alongside two other reported 2027 Apple products, a second-generation foldable iPhone and a 20th-anniversary iPhone, with AI smart glasses, codenamed N50, also reportedly in development to compete with Meta’s Ray-Ban line.
