US Pauses Iran Strikes For Second Straight Night: Trump “Giving Talks Some Space” After 13 Consecutive Nights Of Bombing As Pakistan And Qatar Intensify Shuttle Diplomacy Between Washington And Tehran
According to Al Jazeera and multiple news agencies, the United States paused its attacks on Iran for a second consecutive night on July 26-27, 2026, and Tehran reciprocated by suspending its own retaliatory strikes.
Prior to the pause, the US had carried out strikes on Iran for 13 consecutive nights; the largest escalation since an April ceasefire, after Iran fired on vessels attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia confirmed the halt on state TV: “Since our strategy has essentially been retaliatory, we have also halted our retaliatory operations.”
US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz told Fox News that Trump is “giving talks some space, giving it a little bit of room.” Pakistan and Qatar intensified exchanges of messages between Washington and Tehran following both sides communicating their responses to a joint ceasefire proposal calling for a return to pre-July 9 positions.
A regional mediation official called the mutual pause “a positive signal that helps de-escalation efforts.” Reports of dwindling US missile defense stockpiles contributing to the pause were dismissed by Trump, who said US stockpiles were vast.
