Lahore Rawalpindi Faisalabad Gujranwala And Multan On Urban Flood Alert As PDMA DG Umar Mela Issues Directives To All Commissioners And Deputy Commissioners Across Punjab
According to Dawn, Punjab’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority has warned of a fourth consecutive monsoon spell running from July 29 to August 5, 2026, forecasting heavy rainfall across Punjab with urban flooding in major cities, landslides in hilly areas and flash floods in rivers and hill torrents.
Urban flooding is expected in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Multan. Landslides are forecast in Murree, Galiyat and other mountainous zones. Heavy rainfall is also forecast across Lahore, Kasur, Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Multan and southern Punjab districts between July 31 and August 3.
PDMA Director General Umar Mela confirmed all commissioners and deputy commissioners have been alerted and that departments including health, irrigation, local government, communication and works, and livestock are on standby for prompt emergency response.
Existing flood conditions showed improvement in the Chenab after rainfall eased in upper catchments. However, low-level floods persist at Baloki and Sidhnai headworks on the Ravi, while the Indus carries a low-level flood at Kalabagh and Taunsa with flows of 301,000 and 385,000 cusecs respectively.
