According to Reuters and Gulf News, two vessels belonging to ADNOC — the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company — were attacked while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on the evening of August 13, 2026. No injuries were reported and ADNOC confirmed the situation was brought under control.
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the attacks, attributing them to Iran and calling them a direct threat to regional stability, global energy supply and freedom of navigation. The Ministry described Iran’s use of the Strait of Hormuz as a tool of economic coercion as “piracy.”
ADNOC confirmed that a total of 15 of its vessels have been attacked while transiting the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the US-Iran war in February 2026 — a pattern of sustained targeting of UAE state oil assets that has drawn repeated condemnation from regional and international governments. Iran did not immediately comment on the latest attacks.
The UAE has called on all states to implement UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which condemned Iranian attacks on commercial vessels and demanded the strait remain open to international navigation. Since February 28, Iran has carried out at least 21 direct attacks on commercial vessels, killing more than 10 crew members, with 20,000 seafarers stranded on ships unable to safely transit.
