Sub-Inspector Adeel Ashiq, Head Constable Muhammad Asad And Constable Haris Saleem Shot Dead Thursday Night In Two Separate Locations. Rehan Butt Avenging CTD Killing Of Brother Faizan In 2024 Encounter. Lahore Corps Commander Lays Wreaths On Behalf Of COAS
According to The Nation, three police officials; Sub-Inspector Adeel Ashiq, Head Constable Muhammad Asad and Constable Haris Saleem, were martyred in a brazen daylight gun attack across two locations in Lahore on Thursday, August 14, 2026, Pakistan’s Independence Day and laid to rest with full state honours on Friday at Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh.
Police confirmed the killings were carried out by Rehan Butt and his accomplices as revenge for the Counter Terrorism Department killing of his brother Faizan Butt in a 2024 encounter. Faizan had been shot in a CTD operation, and Rehan allegedly harboured a grudge over his brother’s death; particularly against Sub-Inspector Adeel, whom he had already been threatening by phone before the attack. A case had been registered against Rehan prior to the shooting.
Funeral prayers at Police Lines were attended by the Lahore Corps Commander, Punjab Finance Minister, Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, Inspector General Punjab Police, Capital City Police Officer Lahore, additional IGs, DIGs and senior armed forces and law-enforcement officers. The Lahore Corps Commander laid wreaths on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces and offered Fateha for the martyrs. The bereaved families were met and assured full welfare support by the Corps Commander, IGP Punjab and other senior officials.
