Mojang Reveals The Sift: Minecraft’s Most Significant Dimension Since The End in 2011
Minecraft is getting its first new dimension in over 15 years. Mojang Studios has officially revealed “The Sift”; a vibrant, ethereal world coming to Java and Bedrock editions in 2027, first debuting in Minecraft Dungeons 2 on September 29, 2026. XBOX WIRE
The last new dimension added to the base game was The End, which launched with Minecraft 1.0 in 2011. The Sift breaks that 15-year drought with a strikingly different environment; featuring red and orange stone, lush green vegetation, sculk-like terrain, and pools of a hazardous liquid called icor.
Creative Director Mans Olson described the design vision: “We wanted to make sure it doesn’t feel like the ones that already exist.” Unlike the hostile Nether or The End, The Sift is envisioned as “a place where you could see yourself living, a bit peaceful, sometimes serene.”
Players will encounter new mobs including Sifters, Singers, Neesters, and Sprouts. In Minecraft Dungeons 2, the dimension is accessed through mysterious rifts opening across the Overworld. In the base game, entry will be through Ancient City portals.
