The first Supermoon of 2026 will grace the sky this Saturday, January 3, offering a striking celestial display to kick off the new year. Known as the Wolf Moon, this full moon will appear noticeably larger and brighter as it reaches perigee, the point where the Moon is closest to Earth.
Although the Moon will officially peak around 10:00am, its dramatic size and glow will be clearly visible from Friday night through Saturday evening. No telescope or special equipment is needed, making it an easy and eye-catching sight for casual observers.
However, there’s a downside for skywatchers. The Supermoon’s intense brightness is expected to wash out the night sky, reducing visibility of the Quadrantid meteor shower, which peaks around the same time.
