According to Dawn, the Capital Development Authority has launched a crackdown on hospitals and health facilities across Islamabad for non-compliance with fire and life safety standards, issuing challans worth a total of Rs14 million against 48 hospitals, clinics and healthcare facilities following inspections and notices.
The action follows a recent fire tragedy at PIMS’s nursery that prompted an emergency review of fire safety systems across public health institutions in the capital. Among the fined facilities are major public hospitals including PIMS, Polyclinic and the CDA Hospital, alongside private facilities including KRL Hospital, NESCOM Hospital, NOORI Hospital and MCH Medical Centre with the majority of violations recorded at private hospitals.
Simultaneously, the Punjab government ordered an immediate review of fire safety systems, firefighting equipment and emergency response facilities at all hospitals in the province. In Rawalpindi, SP Security Asghar Ali Goraya directed all SPs, SDPOs and SHOs across the Rawal, Potohar and Saddar divisions to ensure installation of firefighting equipment at every police station and official office. Officials were instructed to photograph existing equipment or report its absence, with strict departmental action warned against any delay.
The SP specifically flagged weapons storage areas, surveillance rooms, radio equipment, record rooms and police lockups as high-risk zones requiring continuous fire protection systems.
