JPMorgan Chase Has Stopped Its Hong Kong Staff From Accessing Anthropic’s AI Models, The Financial Times Reported Thursday Citing Three People Familiar With The Matter, Removing Claude From The Bank’s Internal List Of Approved Large Language Models Over Licensing Terms

JPMorgan Versus Anthropic: The Move Mirrors A Similar Decision By Goldman Sachs In April For Its Hong Kong-Based Bankers, Arriving Amid Rising US-China Tensions Over AI Technology And Data Security, As Reuters Says It Could Not Independently Verify The FT’s Report And Neither JPMorgan Nor Anthropic Responded To Requests For Comment

According to a Reuters wire report citing the Financial Times, JPMorgan Chase has stopped staff in its Hong Kong office from accessing Anthropic’s AI models, removing Claude from the bank’s internal dropdown list of approved large language models.

The FT cited three people familiar with the matter, and Reuters said it could not independently verify the report.

The decision reportedly stemmed from the wording of Anthropic’s usage terms within its licensing agreement with JPMorgan. The move follows a similar decision by Goldman Sachs, which removed Claude from approved tools available to its Hong Kong-based bankers in April.

Western AI models including ChatGPT and Claude remain prohibited in mainland China, though Hong Kong has typically been exempt from such restrictions.

JPMorgan and Anthropic did not respond to requests for comment outside business hours. The restrictions arrive amid rising US-China tensions over AI technology, data security and access to advanced computing tools, with President Trump saying Wednesday that negotiations with Anthropic are “going fine.”
