“Let Them Take Out LA” Remark Sparks Fury From California Leaders As Trump Faces Bipartisan Backlash

Trump Faces Bipartisan Backlash After Suggesting Iran Could “Take Out” Los Angeles and San Diego at Nebraska Rally

President Donald Trump sparked widespread condemnation after suggesting at a Nebraska campaign rally on 5 October that Iran could “take out” Los Angeles and San Diego if it developed nuclear weapons; remarks California’s top officials swiftly denounced as dangerous and disqualifying. Axios

Speaking in Grand Island ahead of midterm elections, Trump framed the ongoing US military conflict with Iran as a necessary pre-emption against nuclear-capable strikes on American cities, calling the war “a small price to pay for keeping the world safe.” His remarks, including the phrase “let them take out Los Angeles, let them take out San Diego”, were widely interpreted as dismissive of the cities’ safety.

California Governor Gavin Newsom called the comments “deranged and dangerous,” while Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said a president’s duty is protection, not threats. San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria declared his city “is not collateral damage.” Even Republican congressional candidate Jim Desmond broke ranks, stating “no American city is expendable.”

The White House defended Trump, with Communications Director Cheung claiming Iran’s military capacity has been eliminated. Read our previous article here on US related News.
