According to Anadolu Agency and Arab News, Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni on June 4 on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meeting of interior and public security ministers in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Pakistan’s Interior Ministry confirmed the two ministers discussed Pakistan-Iran bilateral relations, efforts to reduce regional tensions, and internal security matters.
The meeting is the latest in an intensive series of Naqvi-Momeni contacts since the US-Israel war on Iran began on February 28, 2026. Naqvi has visited Tehran twice in the past month alone, meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian for 90 minutes in May and holding separate sessions with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
Field Marshal Asim Munir has made two trips to Tehran as part of Pakistan’s mediation effort, and Pakistan hosted the highest-level US-Iran talks since 1979 in Islamabad on April 11-12; talks that ultimately collapsed as Iran accused Washington of making excessive demands.
Pakistan’s diplomatic positioning has been described by Al Jazeera as a “delicate balancing act”, maintaining close ties with both Tehran and Washington while serving as the primary channel through which the two sides communicate.
