Over 122,000 Cases of Gatorade Recalled for Undeclared Yellow Dyes Across 37 US States

FDA Orders Gatorade Recall as 122,000 Cases of Lemon Lime and Orange Varieties Contain Undeclared Yellow No. 5 and Yellow No. 6

The United States Food and Drug Administration has announced a recall of more than 122,000 cases of Gatorade products after it was found that four varieties contained undeclared food dyes not listed on their labels. ABC News

The affected products are 28-ounce bottles of Gatorade Lemon Lime, Lemon Lime Zero, Orange, and Orange Zero. Laboratory testing identified the presence of Yellow No. 5 and Yellow No. 6 colouring agents in the products without proper label disclosure. The recalled bottles carry lot dates ranging from April 2027 through June 2027 and were distributed across 37 US states.

Under US federal food labelling law, all artificial colour additives must be declared on product packaging. Yellow No. 5, also known as tartrazine, is known to cause adverse reactions in some individuals, particularly those with aspirin sensitivity or certain allergies, making accurate labelling a consumer safety requirement.

PepsiCo, which manufactures Gatorade, has not issued a public statement at the time of reporting. Consumers holding affected products are advised to check the FDA’s official recall database for guidance. Read our previous article on FDA and Food & Safety related news here.
