The two sides reviewed investment opportunities in Sri Lanka, with particular focus on the agricultural sector, alongside potential cooperation in other sectors of mutual interest. Al Kuwari stressed the importance of strengthening economic and trade relations between Qatar and Sri Lanka, reaffirming Qatar Chamber’s commitment to promoting communication between the private sectors of both countries and familiarising Qatari businesspeople with the investment opportunities available in Sri Lanka.
Hemachandra welcomed the engagement and invited Qatar Chamber and Qatari businesspeople to visit Sri Lanka to explore investment opportunities firsthand, learn about the local business environment and the advantages Sri Lanka’s economy offers to foreign investors. He also extended a formal invitation for Qatar and Qatari businesses to participate in Sri Lanka Expo 2027, scheduled for January 2027.
The meeting reflects Qatar’s broadening bilateral economic engagement across South and Southeast Asia. Sri Lanka, which has emerged from its 2022 economic crisis with IMF support and is actively rebuilding its foreign investment pipeline, presents opportunities in agriculture, tourism, logistics and light manufacturing that align with Qatar’s private sector diversification goals.
For Qatar’s business community, Sri Lanka Expo 2027 is now formally on the calendar. Check out our previous coverage of Qatar’s trade and investment ties on The Trusted Times.
