Cybersecurity News In Qatar: Lieutenant Yousef Ashraf Al Mulla Confirmed The Ministry Never Conducts Video Calls To Request Personal Information, Urging Anyone Receiving Suspicious Messages Claiming To Represent The MoI To Verify Through Official Channels And Report Directly To The Cybercrime Prevention Department Rather Than Engaging Or Paying Any Ransom Demands
According to The Peninsula Qatar, Qatar’s Ministry of Interior has identified employees of an organisation as the weakest link in the cybersecurity chain, warning that cyberattacks and online scams continue to pose significant risks to individuals and organisations alike.
In an awareness webinar held Tuesday, MoI officials highlighted core information security principles, confidentiality, integrity and availability, stressing that employees remain the first line of defence against cyber threats.
The ministry noted that a single act of negligence could lead to data breaches, financial losses, operational disruptions and reputational damage. The session covered phishing, ransomware, malware, social engineering and denial-of-service attacks, advising caution with emails, links, attachments and requests for sensitive information.
Lieutenant Yousef Ashraf Al Mulla confirmed the ministry never conducts video calls requesting personal information, urging the public to verify suspicious communications through official channels and report them to the Cybercrime Prevention Department.
He stressed strong passwords, multi-factor authentication, regular software updates and data backups, and advised against paying ransoms, urging victims to report incidents to authorities instead.
