As of March 14 2026, NASA’s Launched Twin Spacecraft To Study The Effect Of Solar Winds And Its Contribution To Mars’ Lost Atmosphere
According to ScienceDaily, NASA Launched its Twin Spacecraft to study the atmosphere of Mars and how the Solar winds stripped Mars of its ‘life conducive’ atmosphere over billions of years. Scientists have theorized that the charged particles from the solar winds are responsible for the erosion of Mars’ atmosphere.
As a result, NASA is investigating this theory with their ESCAPADE mission (Escape and Plasma Acceleration and Dynamics Explorers Mission) launched on November 13 2025.
According to Joe Westlake, heliophysics division director at NASA Headquarters in Washington, the ESCAPADE mission provides additional roles. Not only is it being used to study the effect of solar winds but will also report “development of space weather protocols for solar events directed at Mars during future human missions to the Red Planet”.
The twin spacecraft orbit around Mars will also help scientists observe the planet’s magnetic environment from two locations at once which helps in providing more accurate results that a single spacecraft cannot achieve.
