CENTCOM Strikes Iranian Maritime And Missile Targets While Saudi-Flagged Tanker Encelia Catches Fire In The Red Sea And Mediators Push A 10-Day Ceasefire Proposal
According to CNN, the United States completed its 12th consecutive night of strikes against Iran on July 22, hitting maritime capabilities, missile and drone storage facilities, coastal surveillance sites, and air defence assets. The attacks killed at least 2 people and wounded 11 others at the Shalamcheh border crossing with Iraq.
Simultaneously, Yemen’s Houthis followed through on their declared naval blockade by striking two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea. NASA satellite imagery confirmed the Saudi-flagged tanker Encelia on fire off Al Shuqaiq. Iran’s IRGC separately reported a tanker ablaze in the Strait of Hormuz. At least 4 vessels turned back from the Bab al-Mandab strait, according to analytics firm Kpler.
Against this backdrop, the US and Saudi Arabia signed a civilian nuclear cooperation agreement allowing Saudi Arabia to develop a domestic nuclear programme through American companies, with Energy Secretary Chris Wright signing alongside Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman.
Regional mediators are simultaneously pushing a 10-day ceasefire proposal to both Washington and Tehran.
