April 4, 2026: Federal Minister For Power, Sardar Awais Leghari Has Warned Of Increasing Electricity Rates Due To Petrol Price Hikes

In A Statement On X, Federal Minister For Power, Sardar Awais Leghari Has Warned Of Increasing Electricity Tarrifs Due To Petrol Price Hikes. Meanwhile Pakistan Government Explores Market Timing Changes, Conservation Measures To Manage Consumption Pressure

According to Profit Pakistan Today, Federal Minister for Power, Sardar Awais Leghari has warned of increasing electricity tariffs due to petrol price hikes. These petrol hikes have affected supply chain and logistics as well as transportation costs, making electricity distribution more expensive for Pakistan Government. Moreover, according to him, the current energy crisis also affects furnace oil and gas supplies, which could be influencing factors for increasing electricity generation costs. As a result, these increasing costs and burdens are then supposed to be transferred to the common citizen in terms of increasing electricity tariffs.

The Federal Minister for Power, Sardar Awais Leghari, also added that the government is consulting provinces on energy-saving measures, including possible adjustments in market operating hours, to reduce strain on the system. To him, the only way forward is energy conservation. As a result of conserving energy, improvements could be made soon.

Separately, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah has warned that economic pressures could increase on Pakistan and on the Pakistani citizens if the conflict in the Middle East continues.
