PDA Chairperson Dr Sohail Munir Meets Aurangzeb To Discuss Digital Assets Framework. Bank-Capital Market Integration, Data Interoperability And Simplified Onboarding Also On Agenda. August 14, 2026
According to The Express Tribune, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb met Pakistan Digital Authority Chairperson Dr Sohail Munir on August 14, 2026 to discuss digital transformation and the potential of tokenisation; the conversion of real-world assets into digital tokens on a blockchain or similar distributed ledger, as a mechanism to open up real estate and other investment assets to broader investor participation.
The meeting covered a broad digital finance agenda: enabling frameworks for electronic transactions, simplifying customer onboarding, strengthening data-sharing mechanisms and improving interoperability of financial data including greater integration between banks and capital markets. The minister highlighted the potential of better-connected data to support policy formulation and decision-making, including through greater use of artificial intelligence.
On tokenisation specifically, participants discussed potential applications in areas such as real estate and other investment assets, with emphasis on the need for appropriate legal and regulatory frameworks to facilitate responsible adoption. The minister stressed that all initiatives must be practical, scalable and aligned with broader digital transformation objectives.
Aurangzeb appreciated the PDA’s ongoing work and underscored the importance of sustained coordination with relevant stakeholders to advance Pakistan’s digital economy. The discussion also covered strengthening digital infrastructure for more efficient delivery of public and financial services.
Pakistan has one of the world’s largest informal real estate markets. Tokenisation could either formalise it or complicate it further; the framework will decide.
