Yamada Holdings is preparing to bring one of the Osaka Expo’s most talked-about attractions to the public: a full-body “human washing machine.” The company says the futuristic device, officially called the Mirai Human Washing Machine, will be showcased at its flagship store in Tokyo’s Ikebukuro district starting December 25.
Visitors will be able to see the unit up close and even try out an experience corner set up inside the store. Yamada is still deciding when the machine will officially go on sale, but the expected price tag is around ¥60 million.
The device was developed by Osaka-based Science, a company known for products that use ultra-fine bubble technology. Users simply lie inside a capsule about 2.3 meters long, where they are gently washed with microbubbles and a fine mist shower. The entire cycle, including drying, takes roughly 15 minutes.
During the process, built-in sensors track the user’s health while the machine displays soothing visuals and plays calming music to enhance relaxation.
The concept became a sensation at the Osaka Expo, drawing more than 40,000 applications from people hoping to try it.
“We want people who weren’t able to visit the expo to experience this technology,” Science Chairman Yasuaki Aoyama said at a news conference.
