Car races will now be held under floodlights in Karachi after an LED lighting system was installed at an autocross track in a private housing society on the Super Highway, making it Pakistan’s first super floodlit sports track and allowing competitions after dark in addition to daytime events.
The more than two-kilometre track has been equipped with 100 light towers, 300 LED lights and four high-mast towers, alongside a dedicated drag-racing strip.
The 400-metre drag track supports 200-metre head-to-head races with vehicles capable of reaching speeds exceeding 250 kilometres per hour, with a modern electronic timing system installed at the finish line for accurate results.
The facility has been opened in its first phase for autocross, side-to-side drag racing, drifting, buggy ATV events and remote-control off-road vehicles. A 2.5-kilometre service line has also been built around the track, with fire brigade, ambulance and immediate medical assistance available during all events.
Space has been earmarked for 100,000 spectators, along with a food court, accommodation, a service area and vehicle parking for cars brought from across Pakistan. In connection with Maraka-e-Haq, 100 cars held a march-past at the track with young drivers participating under the floodlights.
