Pakistan Government Increases The Levy On High Octane Fuel For Luxury Vehicles By Rs 200 Per Litre Amid Already Ongoing Austerity Drive And Economic Turmoil
On March 22 2026, Pakistan Government announces an increase in the levy of High Octane Fuel for Luxury Vehicles by Rs 200 per litre. This comes in an effort to reduce the burden on the economy by targeting the elite class which will bear the burden instead (according to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif).
The narrative to increase burden on the elite class has also previously been used and covered by us during the government’s announcement of ‘austerity drive‘ on March 9.
The prices of fuels used in ordinary vehicles by the lower and middle income class remains unchanged as Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reassured in his statement today.
