SpaceX CEO Elon Musk Has Decided To Provide Technical Details On The Orbital Data Center Satellites – Though Financial Details Remain To Be Provided Yet
According to SpaceNews, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has decided to provide technical details on the Orbital Data Center Satellites. In an event in Austin on March 21st 2026, Elon Musk unveiled the ‘Terafab’ project – a joint collaboration between SpaceX and Tesla to massively increase the production of high-end computer chips necessary for terrestrial and extra-terrestrial data centers.
Terafab has unveiled its plans to produce one terawatt (1 TW) of processors annually which are 50 times more than the combined production rate of all manufacturers of chips used today in advanced applications such as AI.
These processors according to Elon Musk are the “missing ingredients” necessary to his plans of deploying large constellations of satellites to serve as orbital data centers.
If the project goes well, this will allow humanity to shift their data centers into space. Currently, data centers use a lot of water – earth’s natural resource as well as RAM causing steep inflation in the prices of RAMs due to their shortage until 2030. The project’s effectiveness will resolve these impending issues caused by the integration of AI in almost everything.
