Punjab PDMA Warns Of Urban Flooding In Rawalpindi Gujranwala Gujrat Sialkot And Lahore. KP Alert Covers 26 Districts. Rescue 1122 Pre-Positioned. Tourists Warned Away From Rivers And Steep Terrain
According to The Express Tribune, the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority has issued an advisory warning of heavy rain, thundershowers and gusty winds across upper and central Punjab from August 16 to 21, 2026 with a westerly wave compounding the monsoon currents forecast to persist throughout the week.
The PDMA warned that urban flooding could affect low-lying areas of Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot and Lahore from August 17 to 20, while Murree and Galyat face landslide risk throughout the forecast period. Affected districts in the first phase (Aug 16-21) include Rawalpindi, Murree, Galyat, Jhelum, Chakwal, Attock, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sargodha, Mianwali and others. Faisalabad, Jhang, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan are expected to join the list on August 20 and 21.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the provincial PDMA issued a parallel alert covering 26 districts, including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Peshawar, Mardan and South Waziristan, where heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast from August 17 to 21. Rescue 1122 DG Shah Fahad urged citizens to stay away from rivers, streams and steep terrain, warning against swimming, hiking, trekking and crossing flooded bridges. District administrations were directed to ensure round-the-clock staffing, pre-position search-and-rescue teams, clear drains and desilt nullahs before the rains intensify.
