An Impossibly Invisible Galaxy Found: Scientists have Discovered a Galaxy Composed of 99.9% Dark Matter in a Newly Published Research Paper

According to VICE, scientists have discovered an impossibly invisible galaxy composed of up to 99.9% Dark Matter. This discovery came after a peer reviewed journal article on IOP Publishing, a scientific research publishing company that specializes in Physics and related disciplines was published under the Journal: The Astrophysical Journal Letters.

The galaxy which has been dubbed as Candidate Dark Galaxy 2 or CDG-2 is located about 300 million light years away in the Perseus Cluster.

The biggest findings that can be extracted from the research paper is that the galaxy contains large amounts of neutral hydrogen gas but very little visible starlight. The object has a typical galaxy like rotation despite lacking normal star formation. The discovery also supports the stable existence of dark galaxies.

This helps scientists in a big way. Previously, the existence of stable dark galaxies and systems have only been theoretical, mostly discussed on podcasts, documentaries or as a form of theoretical calculations. A physical evidence will help scientists understand better how matter that cannot be seen play such a large role in our universe.
