Falling 600 KG Satellite Van Allen Probe A which was Launched in 2012 and Deactivated in 2019 to Hit Earth Today
According to Space.com, a falling 600 KG Satellite Van Allen Probe A which was launched in 2012 as part of a research to study critical data on Earth’s radiation belt has long been decommissioned and deactivated since 2019. Six years later today, the Van Allen Probe A is expected to re-enter the Earth’s Atmosphere and crash land on the surface.
According to NASA, the extreme air compression will likely burn up almost the entirety of the spacecraft, though some parts and falling debris may survive.
NASA further wrote on their updated article that the chance of harming any individual is 1 in 4,200. Since oceans make up to approximately 71% of the Earth’s surface, there is a high chance that the debris will fall in the ocean instead of falling in cities or settlements.
