Mecum’s Kissimmee 2026 auction produced a staggering result: 10 American-built classics selling for nearly $28 million combined, with over 50 individual cars crossing the $1 million mark. autoevolution
The undisputed king was a 1966 Ford GT40 MkII Factory Lightweight; one of only 11 ever made, one of three built on a lightweight chassis, and reportedly the most original MkII in existence. Never raced, never restored, it hammered at $12.3 million, making it the second-most expensive GT40 ever auctioned.
Two cars tied for second at $3.3 million each: a rare 1966 Shelby 427 Cobra featuring the coveted “Narrow Hip” option; only 32 were ever built and a 1971 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible, one of just five automatic Hemi convertibles produced that year.
Chevrolet dominated the mid-tier, with a 1969 Yenko Camaro Prototype fetching $1.8 million and a 1963 Corvette Z06/N03; one of just five believed to retain its original engine, clearing $1.04 million.
This is what the American collector car market looks like when provenance, rarity, and originality converge. Kissimmee 2026 proved the appetite is only growing.
