Alinea Analytics Data Shows EA Sports FC 26 Was 88% Digital on PS5, While Ghost of Yotei Sold Just 35.4% Physical vs 71% for Ghost of Tsushima in 2022
According to Vice, data from consumer tracking company Alinea Analytics reveals that PS5’s top-selling game of 2026; EA Sports FC 26, sold just 12% of its copies on physical disc, with 88% sold digitally across PS4 and PS5. An additional 6.4 million PlayStation players accessed the game through a PS Plus subscription.
The breakdown across the rest of 2026’s biggest PlayStation titles tells a consistent story: Crimson Desert sold 19.9% physical; 007 First Light sold 21%; and Resident Evil Requiem; a third-party title, sold 27.8% on disc. Ghost of Yotei recorded the highest physical rate at 35.4%, but that figure is striking for a different reason.
Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut sold 71% physical in 2022. That represents a near-50% collapse in physical sales for the same franchise in just four years.
Some industry observers dispute the precision of Alinea’s methodology. But even in a general ballpark, the trend is unambiguous — physical gaming on PlayStation is not declining. It is vanishing.
This data also explains exactly why Sony is killing disc support on PS5 and PS6 from 2028. When your best-selling game moves 88 copies digitally for every 12 on disc, the shelf space is already empty in practice.
