Petroleum Division Notification Pushes Petrol To Rs320.73 And Diesel To Rs367.21 Per Litre Effective Wednesday July 22 Amid Ongoing US Iran Conflict
According to Dawn, the Pakistani government raised petrol prices by Rs4.93 and high-speed diesel by Rs7.15 per litre effective July 22, pushing petrol to Rs320.73 and diesel to Rs367.21 per litre.
The hike follows renewed Persian Gulf hostilities driving global oil price volatility. These are not peak levels. The respective fuel prices had touched Rs458.41 and diesel Rs520.35 on April 3 after the US-Iran war broke out in late February, before gradually retreating as ceasefire talks gained momentum. That momentum has since reversed.
Making matters more disruptive, the government has now handed Ogra the authority to revise fuel prices daily rather than weekly. Petrol pump dealers have already announced a nationwide strike after those talks collapsed.
This is the real pressure point. Daily pricing removes the one buffer Pakistani consumers had. Every flare-up in the Strait of Hormuz now lands at the pump the next morning. The middle class, the rickshaw driver, the freight sector and the power grid all absorb the hit simultaneously.
