McLaren P50 Rumored To Feature A Manual Gearbox For First Time Since The Legendary F1 Of 1998

Reports Claim McLaren Is Building A Limited Run P50 Hypercar With Three Pedals Targeting A Monterey Car Week Reveal In August 2026

According to Automotive Addicts, McLaren is reportedly developing a new hypercar internally called the P50 — and the detail making the entire performance world stop is a manual gearbox.

If true, this would be McLaren’s first road car with a traditional clutch pedal since the F1, which was produced from 1992 to 1998 and remains the fastest naturally aspirated production car in history. Every McLaren road car since has used a paddle-shifted dual-clutch gearbox.

The rumor gains credibility when you look at what is happening across the segment. Ferrari reintroduced a manual-style experience with the 12Cilindri Manuale. Hennessey is fitting the Venom F5-M with a true manual transmission. Porsche continues selling special three-pedal 911 variants to waitlists. The market is speaking clearly, and McLaren may finally be listening.

The reported reveal target is The Quail at Monterey Car Week in August. McLaren has not confirmed anything yet.

Still, the possibility alone is enough. A manual McLaren P50 would not just be a rare car. It would be a statement that driving still matters.
