Pakistan: Petrol Up Rs0.45 And HSD Up Rs1.16 Per Litre Under Daily OGRA Pricing Mechanism Effective August 14. Both Still Far Below April 3 War-Era Peaks But Tax Burden Has Risen Since August 5 Baseline
According to Dawn, the government raised petrol prices by Rs0.45 per litre to Rs325.43 and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs1.16 per litre to Rs383.95, effective August 14, 2026; Pakistan’s Independence Day. The government now levies Rs114 per litre in taxes and duties on petrol, up from Rs110 previously, and Rs100 per litre on HSD, up from Rs96.
The revisions continue under the daily OGRA pricing mechanism introduced by Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, which replaced the weekly revision system in place since early March. Both fuels remain well below their April 3 war peaks; petrol peaked at Rs458.41 and HSD at Rs520.35 but the post-war recovery has been uneven. Petrol, which was at Rs266 before the US-Iran war broke out on February 28, is now Rs59.43 above its pre-war level. HSD, which started at Rs281, remains Rs102.95 above its pre-war baseline.
The All Pakistan Dealers Association has rejected the daily pricing mechanism and is considering a protest. Monthly petrol and HSD sales run between 700,000 and 800,000 tonnes combined, making every per-litre revision consequential for transport costs, inflation and household budgets across Pakistan.
August 14, Independence Day. Petrol goes up. The war tax stays. The daily pricing clock resets at midnight.
