Kia Sorento Takes On Toyota Fortuner In India Premium 3-Row SUV Comparison Across Specs, Safety, Off-Road And Prices

Sorento Rs27.99 Lakh To Rs40.39 Lakh Fortuner Rs34.76 Lakh To Rs50.46 Lakh Sorento Longer Wider Longer Wheelbase Fortuner Taller More Ground Clearance Sorento 2.2L Diesel 193PS 442Nm 8AT And 1.6L Petrol Hybrid Fortuner 2.8L Diesel Up To 204PS 500Nm

According to RushLane, Kia’s recently launched Sorento; its third-best-selling global model with over 4.8 million units sold across 132 countries since 2002, is now priced between Rs27.99 lakh and Rs40.39 lakh in India, directly challenging the Toyota Fortuner’s diesel range of Rs35.40 lakh to Rs50.46 lakh.

On dimensions, Sorento is longer (4,815mm vs 4,795mm), wider (1,900mm vs 1,855mm) and has a longer wheelbase (2,815mm vs 2,745mm), while Fortuner is taller (1,835mm vs 1,785mm) giving it more headroom. Under the bonnet, Sorento’s 2.2-litre diesel produces 193PS and 442Nm paired with an 8-speed DCT, while the 1.6-litre petrol hybrid combines 180PS petrol output with a 65PS electric motor for superior fuel efficiency. Fortuner’s 2.8-litre diesel tops out at 204PS and 500Nm with 6AT, stronger on paper.

Where the two SUVs diverge sharply is construction and off-road hardware: Fortuner uses a body-on-frame chassis with 225mm ground clearance, 700mm water wading, Low Range 4WD and Multi-Terrain Select with five modes, against Sorento’s monocoque platform with 176mm clearance and terrain modes for Snow, Sand and Mud only. Technology reverses the verdict. Sorento carries dual 12.3-inch screens, a 12-speaker Bose system, ADAS Level 2+ with 29 autonomous features and 26 standard safety features across all variants. Fortuner currently has no ADAS.

The Sorento wins on tech and price. The Fortuner wins on off-road. Pick your priority. Check out our previous coverage of the automotive sector on The Trusted Times.
